SOME ISSUES IN THE KAZAKH-ZHUNGAR CONFLICT

Abstract

This research article analyzes the course and individual manifestations of the Dzungar invasions of the Kazakh Khanate in the 17th–18th centuries. Furthermore, this study, based on new historical information, research, works, and data obtained from secondary sources, examines the socioeconomic development of the two states, analyzes the causes of the war, and the reasons for the Kazakh defeat in the early years of the war.

While it is impossible to comprehensively study the causes and consequences of the Dzungar invasion, uncover them, and get to the root of the matter, today, as a civic duty of the Kazakh people, great importance is attached to examining individual aspects of the Kazakh-Dzungar invasion. This research paper examines the general stages of the Dzungar invasion with an emphasis on comparative analysis. Based on a review of the scientific literature, a brief historiography has been created, beginning with the early works of researchers and concluding with the work of more recent researchers. We see that, despite the external aggression of nomadic society, Kazakh leaders strove to maintain a normal way of life, and these conflicts contributed to the formation and transformation of the state system.

During difficult periods in history, when the Kazakh people were emerging, Kazakh leaders and heroes played a significant role in organizing preventive measures and preserving the unity of the people and statehood at every stage of the Kazakh land's path to freedom and independence. The aim of this study is to comprehensively analyze the main problems of the Kazakh Khanate during the Dzungar invasion and assess their impact on the political, social, and cultural transformation of Kazakh society. New data and research findings related to the Dzungar invasion are published every year. It is necessary to study this data as a research object for the purpose of collecting, comparing, and comprehensively examining them.
